Collective Stupidity is the opposite of Collective Intelligence and refers to a situation in which a group of Human individuals collectively make decisions or take actions that are irrational or harmful. This can occur when Human individuals within a group fail to share information, ignore evidence, or succumb to groupthink, which is a phenomenon where Human individuals conform to the opinions or decisions of the group rather than engaging in rational critical thinking. This is often because Humans seek to be socially and culturally accepted and normalized within a larger group.
Collective Stupidity can emerge in a wide variety of situations, including group decision-making, social movements, political campaigns, commercial competition, and global geopolitical competition for wealth and power.
In some cases, Collective Stupidity can result from a lack of Human diversity of backgrounds and experience within the group, which can lead to group members reinforcing each other's biases and perspectives rather than challenging them to reach a more optimal solution. In other cases, Collective Stupidity can emerge when Human individuals are more concerned with conforming to social norms or pleasing the group than with making rational decisions.
Collective Stupidity can also emerge in situations of extreme competition where potentially terminal risks associated with decisions are intentionally and irrationally dismissed in favour of attempting to develop a competitive advantage over another competing group of Humans.
This problem occurs because of the fundamental design of Human Brains, and a specific component called the amygdala that has the ability to severely inhibit rational and logical decision making processes that occur within the Brain's frontal lobes.
Key factors that contribute to the emergence of Collective Stupidity are a lack of critical thinking and independent thought. When Human individuals within a group are not willing to challenge assumptions, ask questions, engage in open-minded dialogue, or are aggressively challenged by other Humans, they may be more likely to make irrational decisions or take actions that are not in their or the Human groups overall best interests.
Collective Stupidity can lead to irrational and harmful decisions and can have very negative consequences for both individual Humans and Human society as a whole.
