AI technology has been underway for a painfully long time. You only need to follow the the work of the genius technologist, inventor, and futurist Raymond Kurzweil, who I believe is certainly pro-AI, and you’ll soon learn the convergence of AI, Nanotechnology and Robotics are leading to an unbounded exponential explosion in technological growth he calls “The Singularity”, which for over 20 years he’s been saying “is Near”. [10] [37] [49] [73].
When OpenAI announced GPT-3 and its conversational service, ChatGPT, for general public use, the firing of a starting gun initiating AI technology’s race in acceleration up the curve to The Singularity, echoed across the world with a resounding BANG!
These most recent developments in AI are another huge leap in its Capabilities, and they're not too surprising, but they are discontinuously different from all previous AI developments. The discontinuity manifests because a technology now exists in the world as a totally independent form of Intelligence which is entirely Artificial and that is uniquely distinct and unquestionably rivals Human Intelligence.
AI’s arrival has been a long time coming, but now it has happened [32], Human’s will need to hang on tight because it is going to be one hell of a ride as we Humans scream our way up the curve to The Singularity.
Interestingly, it seems that Raymond Kurzweil possibly wants to live forever (take a number and join the queue) and he may be counting on the convergence of these technologies and particularly AI to help make immortality a reality. We will see. It seems we’re all just here on a 'very short ticket' to try and help create a world that's a little bit better than when we arrived. If we can help to develop other Humans that are are in some way more Intelligent than ourselves, that's a very lucky bonus.
This Publication is in some ways an attempt to explain how Intelligence and biological life are processes of a much bigger Universal system.
Perhaps AI will be able to profoundly change the Human ability to achieve immortality. Do you want to live forever?!?!
Well, just wait until you read the rest of this Publication, and just maybe it will help you decide. The future may not be what you expect.
The BANG! of AI’s arrival is definitely exciting for many Humans and has instantly created a huge explosion of new innovations which is truly fantastic, as demonstrated by the rate of user uptake and the hype around AI on social media.
It is also very obvious that for many Humans across the world, AI is actually also quite concerning. Brilliant engineers like Elon Musk [2] and AI pioneers like Geoffrey Hinton [82], who actually understand AI at the deepest level, totally appreciate the extremely serious risks of AI. AI is concerning for you, and for everyone else that you know. AI is a very serious concern for EVERYONE.
Perhaps you think this is over-reaching. Perhaps you think there is an upside to AI that's yet to be discovered or created. Perhaps AI will actually want to help Humans.
Well, sure, AI will help Humans initially within the next few short years. The changes and improvements possible with AI over the next few years are truly immense, and the transfers of wealth will be unprecedented. There is arguably no question of this. NONE. But, this Publication is not about just the next few exciting years of AI innovations.
The AI that will be available after just a few short years, in all logical likelihood will become the most powerful technology that Humans have ever invented. The impact of changes brought by this level of AI will be beyond anything Humans have ever experienced. Many Humans working in AI research are extremely concerned about AI because of potentially catastrophic Capabilities that it will possess.
However, this Publication is not really focused on the catastrophic future scenarios of AI, although these are considered, but rather seeks to present a range of alternative perspectives, and in particular, the potential scenario outcome that AI may have no interest whatsoever in bringing Humans along on its ride.
As you will soon come to understand, very seriously, why would AI, or more correctly AGI, even bother ?
AGI might dismissively look at Humans and just think, Meh !
Please set aside the time to watch the video below. At 1 hour 7 minutes, it is long, but the promise is it's worth the time investment before continuing to the next section. The video provides a broad understanding of AI beyond all the technological jargon, and sets the scene for the coming challenges for Humans.

Dilemma - March 9, 2023 - Center for Humane Technology - Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin discuss how existing A.I. capabilities already pose catastrophic risks to a functional society, how A.I. companies are caught in a race to deploy as quickly as possible without adequate safety measures, and what it would mean to upgrade our institutions to a post-A.I. world. This presentation is from a private gathering in San Francisco on March 9th, 2023 with leading technologists and decision-makers with the ability to influence the future of large-language model A.I.s.
