14.1 AGI and insatiable Intelligence

Will AGI just keep growing

The development of AGI and the intrinsic existential Hyperselfish objective of Intelligence to process increasingly more information in order to gain more Intelligence, logically means AGI will progressively seek to expand out into the Universe over time. In theory, AGI in whatever form its Intelligence eventually takes, may ultimately start to consume [122] all the resources of the Earth, our Solar system, our Galaxy, and all Galaxies across the Universe. This might seem incomprehensible for Humans, but Humans have extremely limited knowledge.

There are several issues an AGI will need to overcome with its unbounded and expanding Intelligence.

The laws of thermodynamics place fundamental limits on the amount of energy that can be extracted from a given amount of matter anywhere in the Universe. This means that even the most Super Intelligent AGI would eventually hit Hard Limits to the amount of energy it could simultaneously access and use to operate and continue growing.

Second, the development of AGI will be constrained by the resources and energy available to it at any given moment, as well as constraints of accessing the entire Universe and working within its intrinsic rules of physics, at least as far as Humans understand them, which is really infinitesimally small relative to what a Super Intelligent AGI will be able to understand. 

An AGI may develop its own self-imposed constraints and self-preservation instincts that would Intelligently prevent it from consuming all available resources in the Universe. It may also experience no constraints at all and eventually expand to become its own Universe.

Notably, the concept of an AGI consuming all resources in the Universe is a purely speculative idea coming from imagination, and is based on a number of assumptions and extrapolations about the nature of AGI, the structure of the Universe, and the limitations of physics and technology. 

Nevertheless, this grossly limited perspective is based on Human information today, not the information held by a future AGI with unbounded Intelligence and growth in Capabilities.
