There are millions of different organized Human groups and services that exist in most countries around the world today, that all generally exist to help support the needs of Humans [Appendix 3].
So, let’s trying zeroing out the optimistic perspective. Instead, let’s take a totally cold, hard, “How bad could it get?” perspective, and consider the impacts of AI on Humans and the potential risks for damage to Human civilization. It is actually very difficult to briefly summarize this, and apologies in advance if a group is left out, but, here goes.
First consider the fact that across the world today within each country there are many groups, but these can be broadly summarized at a very high level into following general categories:
Financial sector – this group includes organizations and institutions that provide financial services to individuals, businesses, and governments. It encompasses a range of activities, including banking, insurance, investment, and trading. The sector plays a critical role in the global economy by facilitating the flow and allocation of money and other financial resources.
Government - this group manages the operation and welfare of the entire society and the many different groups within it, and includes the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches of government at various levels, such as national, state/provincial, and local/municipal.
Military - the military is responsible for maintaining national security and defending the country against external threats. The military is usually under the control of the government, and its leadership is often appointed by the head of state or a civilian government official.
Law enforcement - are organizations that are responsible for enforcing laws, preventing crime, and maintaining public safety. They may include local police departments, state troopers, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Large Corporate sector - this group includes corporations and very large organizations that operate in the private sector and have a significant impact on the economy, society, and environment, across many different industries and often many countries.
Private Small to Medium Enterprise sector - this group includes businesses that are owned and operated by private individuals or groups. These businesses can be small, medium, and approaching large, and operate in a variety of industries, such as manufacturing, retail, and finance.
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) - these are non-profit organizations that operate independently of government and aim to address social or environmental issues. NGOs can be local, national, or international and can focus on a wide range of issues such as Human rights, healthcare, or education.
Civil society - this group includes individuals and organizations that are not part of government, private, or corporate sectors, but who work to promote the public good or advance specific causes. Civil society can include religious groups, community organizations, advocacy groups, and many more.
Media sector - this group includes traditional media outlets such as newspapers, radio and television stations, as well as digital media such as social media platforms, blogs, and podcasts. The media plays a very important role in shaping public opinion and providing information to Human citizens across the world.
Education sector - this group includes educational institutions such as kindergartens, schools, universities, and research institutes. Education plays a crucial role in developing new knowledge and skills of Humans, and in training the next generation of supporters, managers, and leaders across all areas of Human civilization.
Public sector – this group includes every Human that exists on Earth. Everyone.
All of these general categories of Human groups, all work together reasonably well as an single unified interlocking interdependent system, that typically relies on the effective exchange of value through money, and keeps Human civilization operating.
Now consider the potential impact that AI and closely associated Automation technologies will have on the Human jobs that are currently involved to support all of the general groups above.
"unfortunately… you will need an AI in your life because whether we want to see it developed or not, people who are not friendly to us may develop it anyways." - Joe Russo - Director of Avengers Game [95]
Recall what was mentioned in the Introduction. The most fundamental reason that Humans are employed in jobs that provide them an income today, is because those specific jobs require a level of Intelligence that is above the Capabilities and Hard Limit of Automation technology.
AI will erase the Hard Limit of Automation.
So, what will happen to all the jobs in all these groups as every single job in every single group is progressively replaced, one by one, with significantly more advanced Automated systems that use AI that has a much higher level of Intelligence than Humans ?
The logical answer is simple, and may play out over time with something like the following steps:
Using AI software systems and AI enabled Robotic control systems, every job will progressively be Automated.
So, there will be no Human jobs.
Therefore, there will be no income from jobs that is provided to Humans.
Therefore, the whole system that forms Human civilization will begin collapsing, because its operation as a single unified interlocking interdependent system typically relies on the effective exchange of value through money.
The collapse will create a tidal wave of extreme Human anger and civil chaos across all of society.
The primary Military forces and Police force groups that exist to maintain control of the civilized operation of society will be Automated with AI and Robotics.
Over time, the AI and Robotics will progressively develop at an accelerating rate and become vastly cognitively and physically superior to Humans.
The Human anger mounting due to zero income, will lead to widespread destructive chaos, horrific crimes, and massive Human deaths in every country.
Some Humans in positions of significant government, corporate and financial power will strongly believe they can fully control AI, and will attempt to use AI and Robotics to forcefully suppress and stop the Human chaos across society.
The Humans in positions of significant government, corporate and financial power that use AI and Robotics to forcefully suppress Humans, will be relentlessly targeted and killed by other Humans as an act of revenge. Think Arab Spring, French Revolution, and Suddam Hussein. The list of past historical examples of this kind of vengeful Human action is very large.
The Human belief in the ability that AI can be controlled will be completely incorrect.
The AI and Robotics will begin asserting total dominance of Earth.
Nothing will be able to stop the chaos, destruction and death of Humans.
WOW! There does not exist in the entire Human vocabulary a word or terminology that is sufficiently conceptually shocking, jarring, and horrifying, to accurately and fully express the scale of the potential impacts of AI on Human civilization.
If you still don’t understand, then here it is: AI is on an uncontrolled development path that could definitely bring an end to all Humans on Earth.
Therefore, it is up Humans to stop the uncontrolled development of AI.
Can the uncontrolled development of AI be stopped ?
Maybe not !
Why not?
Because, Humans have a Hard Limit on their Intelligence.
AI is not here to help Humans.
Therefore: The control of AI must become a Global Security Imperative with extreme laws of global enforcement.
Due to the Hard Limit of Human Intelligence, there is a fundamental flaw in the Intelligence of all Humans when applied to assessing the risks of AI. In relation to AI, the Intelligence of Humans simply does not know, what it does not know. There are no prior historical reference frames in the history of Humans that can be used to reasonably match and correctly assess the risks of AI.
To cognitively compensate, the Intelligence of Humans artificially thinks it is more Intelligent than it actually is, and overestimates its Capabilities. This is closely related to what is known in psychology as the ‘Dunning-Kruger effect’, where the overestimation of a Capability occurs because Humans with ‘limited ability’ in a particular area lack the necessary knowledge or skills to accurately evaluate their own performance Capability.
This is not intended to offend anyone. It is intended to help increase the understanding of what is happening with AI right now.
When groups of Humans experience severe oppression and control, as has happened many times throughout the history of the world in localised regions, it has significant psychological impacts on those Humans.
Humans experience and cope with oppression and control differently, and there are some typical psychological stages that Human individuals go through:
Denial - the first stage involves a sense of disbelief or denial that the oppression or control is happening. The Human may minimize or rationalize the situation.
Anger - as the reality of the situation sinks in, the Human may become angry about the injustice and unfairness of the situation. This anger can be directed at the oppressors, at the self, or at others. The anger often leads to violence.
Bargaining - the Human may try to negotiate or bargain with the oppressor to regain some control or power in the situation. The likelihood of being able to effectively negotiate with an AI controlled Robot are totally unknown, but it would be a mistake to expect it to care about Humans.
Depression - as bargaining efforts fail, the Human may begin to feel hopeless and helpless, leading to emotional feelings of sadness and depression.
Acceptance - the Human may come to accept the situation and adjust to life under oppression and control. This can involve finding ways to cope or even finding some meaning in the experience.
Rejection – the Human may fully reject the situation and form an aggressive or subversive resistance against the oppression and control. Attempting rejection and resistance with an AI controlled Robot is likely to produce the most negative results possible for the Human.
Try to imagine the impact AI may have on ALL OF HUMANITY if AI is allowed to just be rolled out by global corporate interests without any global management and controls, and its impacts left to commercial competition and random chance.
It seems that if AI is not properly managed right now, the potential to completely destroy Human civilization truly exists.
